Every woman dreams of becoming a princess, and Kate Middleton has captured Prince William’s heart and is living every girl’s dream in real life. This wedding of the century marks the very first time a non-royal will be joining the ranks of the Royal Family.

The Franklin Mint is manufacturing only 5,000 of the Princess Kate Bride Doll, which will feature an exact replica of Kate’s actual wedding dress. Kate Middleton's secret bachellorette party

The most famous sister-of-the-bride in the world, Pippa Middleton, arranged a top-secret bachelorette party for Princess Kate at an undisclosed location. Savvy Pippa actually booked four different hot spots in London in order to throw the media and paparazzi. It seems that she succeeded only too well, and we have no photos of Princess Kate from the event to share with you. The photo on this page was taken in 2007 when Kate and Pippa went clubbing during the infamous breakup of Prince William and Kate.

Just like Prince William’s bachelor party of last week, this event was kept low-key and off the public’s radar. A source close to Kate says, “There isn’t as much of a tradition of hen nights as there is for stag parties. This was a very private event, with only a few of Kate’s close friends in attendance.”

It is unlikely that Kate got drunk at the party, as she is known not to handle her drink well. She tends to nurse a single glass of wine all evening at parties and clubs.

Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Chelsey Davy, was not in attendance at this private event.

It looks like photos of the bachelorette party will not make it into the public sphere of royal wedding souvenirs. And that’s fine with us. We like seeing Kate have some privacy; do check out our Protect Princess Kate video, and like it if you agree:)

My Crush on Charles, the Prince of Wales (1969)

Guest post by: Mary Morris

When I was a young girl, I had a bit of a crush on Prince Charles. I think the idea of this faraway Prince just sung to my heart. So being the naïve young girl that I was, I wrote a letter to him on July 31, 1969.  I wish now that I had kept a copy of that letter – I’m sure it would make me giggle. I wrote asking for a souvenir and I’m sure I secretly wished he would like me, too.

To my surprise, I heard back from His Royal Highness. Mind you, Prince Charles did not personally write to me, but his Assistant, E. Smith, wrote to me on Royal Letterhead. E. Smith’s title is “Equerry to The Prince of Wales”. I believe Equerry means that he was Prince Charles’ personal assistant at that time.

Since 1969, I have moved many times, but I have kept this letter. It still looks as crisp and new as the day it was written. Of course, it was written on a typewriter. It’s fun to think that E. Smith sat down to the typewriter to write to me. This letter is a wonderful souvenir and something I have treasured over the years. The salutation “Dear Miss Smith” and the signature were handwritten by E. Smith. I love the Buckingham Palace letterhead – so regal looking with the red printing and fancy crown.

Even the envelope with the Queen Elizabeth II stamp is noteworthy. It is postmarked from London – and at that time in my life – London was a far off dream. I had hardly traveled anywhere in my life. The upper left corner includes a regal blue sticker that says “By Air Mail”, which made it intriguing to me. The back of the envelope has a red crown that matches the letterhead.

My crush on the Prince was short-lived. I found my own prince and have been happily married to him for almost 40 years. But I still enjoy my personal letter from Buckingham Palace. I wonder if the Palace still replies personally to requests such as mine. I think it would be difficult to keep up with the volume
of mail they receive on a daily basis – especially with the popularity of Princess Diana and the upcoming marriage of Kate Middleton to Prince William.

Of all the Royal Wedding souvenirs out there, this is one that truly takes the cake! And, it’ll take your vegetables, fruits, eggs, and meats as well! The William and Kate Refrigerator is being manufactured to celebrate the wedding of the century!

Having the image of Prince William and Princess Kate embossed upon your fridge is definitely a step above the way the rest of us commoners display photos in our kitchens – with decidedly old-fashioned magnets. It is unclear if the surface of the Royal Fridge is magnetic or not – however, I am certain that you would have no intention of marring William and Kate’s royal image with a non-royal shopping list and magnet.

It is entirely possible that food stored inside the William and Kate fridge will last longer, taste better, and have a higher nutritional content than food which is stored in ordinary, commoners’ refrigerator. I’m not saying that the quality of the food in the Royal Fridge will definitely be improved, I’m just saying that it’s possible. After all, when appliance manufacturers market fridges as royal wedding souvenirs, then anything is possible!

The Royal Fridge was the brainstorm of a Facebook discussion by a distributor for General Electric appliances in the UK. This is one piece of memorabilia that literally takes the cake – and so much more! David Garden, a director for GE at GDHA has really high hopes for this 5’9″ royal wedding souvenir. “Who knows,” he says. “Perhaps Prince Charles or Camilla will buy one as a gift for William and Kate.” After all, “Commemorative tea towels are so 1981.”

Well, it certainly beats sticking their engagement photo to the fridge with a magnet! Don’t you think? I can’t help but wonder where William and Kate will keep their shopping list in their kitchen if they choose not to hang things on this fridge. Perhaps they will receive a royal notepad from the Queen?

The new GIU21XGYFKB fridge freezer from GE can be personalized to meet specific color schemes and design trends using removable bespoke panels designed and manufactured to individual requirements. Does that mean that the fridge need not be destroyed in the unfortunate event of a royal divorce; the photo panels can simply be updated? Let’s not think in that direction, and let’s hope that this fridge keeps the royal love fresh forever.

the royal wedding carriage

Thousands of details for the upcoming Royal Wedding are being planned, and the Royal Carriage has just been chosen to carry Prince William and his bride Princess Kate on their wedding day!  In a move that disturbed fans of the Royal Family, Kate has chosen to arrive at Westminster Abbey via car, not coach!  Perhaps the royal bride wanted to minimize comparisons to her Princess Diana’s wedding, or she felt that she was arriving as a commoner and would leave in a royal carriage as royalty.

The line up of horses that will lead the procession of Royal Carriages is currently being chosen, and you can see how the coaches are cared for and get a close-up view in the video below.

But here’s what I want to know:  How do they train those horses to avoid pooping right in front of the newly wed Prince and Princess??

The open coach was manufactured in 1902 for King Edward VII, and it is frequently used by Her Majesty The Queen when she entertains foreign dignitaries.

royal carriage

And what if – horrors – it rains on the day of the wedding of the century? Fear not, the Palace has a plan! In case of a rainy day on April 29, an enclosed glass carriage will be used instead of the open-topped carriage. This is the very same coach that carried Princess Diana and Prince Charles on their royal wedding in 1981. Do you remember that magical feeling of watching a fairy tale come true as Diana stepped out of the glass carriage for the very first time in her ivory gown?

royal rolls royce

If you are disappointed that Kate won’t be arriving at Westminster Abbey in a carriage and worried that she may arrive in a beat-up sedan, never fear! The Royal Family’s Rolls Royce Phantom VI will bring Princess Kate and Michael Middleton to the wedding in style. This luxury vehicle is currently being repaired, as it suffered minor damage when rioters pelted the car which held Prince Charles and Camilla several months ago. Palace officials are unworried about the damage; it was just paint and other body work that needs attention, yet it takes a while to address as the parts for this Rolls Royce must be custom ordered. However, it does remain to be seen how Carole Middleton will get to the ceremony.

After the one hour wedding ceremony, a procession of five carriages will leave Westminster Abbey carrying the wedding party:

  • William and Kate
  • The best man (Prince Harry), the bridesmaid (Kate’s sister, Pippa), along with the young pages and bridesmaids
  • The Queen and Prince Philip
  • Michael and Carole Middleton
  • Prince Charles and Camilla

I have come across all kinds of royal wedding souvenirs, from the breathtakingly beautiful to the outright wacky – however – I have not yet seen any replica royal carriages for sale! What are you royal wedding memorabilia manufacturers waiting for? We might want tiny carriages to display on our mantels and full sized replicas for use with our horses!

Will you watch Princess Kate get the ride of her life in one of these historic carriages live?  Or will you sleep through the wedding (in USA timezones) and watch the royal wedding videos later?

A royal mystery for you:

Traditionally, married women take on the surname of their husband. That leaves us wondering about Princess Bride: What will Kate Middleton’s last name be after her marriage to Prince William?

On this copy of Prince William’s birth certificate from 1982, you can see that a blank line runs through the field for “surname”. (Incidentally, the newborn’s father’s occupation is listed as: Prince of the United Kingdom!)

Would you be shocked to learn that there are civilized people in the year 2011 who do not have last names? Well, that is the case for the Royal Family. Which does leave us wondering: What does it say on William’s credit card? Or does he always pay for things with his bodyguard’s plastic?

A story is told about the time William and Kate were at a convenience store in an out-of-the-way location in Britain when William brought several items and, embarrassingly enough, discovered that he had no cash on hand. (Or ‘Grannys’, as Princess Diana famously taught Wills and Harry to call the UK bills which feature the countenance of Queen Elizabeth!) “Are you Prince William?” asked the young cashier.

Tired of the publicity, Wills stared down at his shoes and mumbled, “No.”

However, without a means of paying for his groceries, he went outside to ask Kate to pay. The royal girlfriend presented her credit card to the cashier who now knew the identity of the couple in her aisle, as the card read, “Catherine Middleton.”

When Prince William was in uniform in the Royal Air Force, his uniform identity tag read “William Wales” although that is not his last name.

The Royal Family does not use last names, thus, William’s full name is Prince William Arthur Philip Louis.

In 1960, Queen Elizabeth decided that her descendents would all be known as the house of Mountbatten-Windsor. If a surname needs to be used for whatever reason (and God knows that William doesn’t need a credit card!) then Mountbatten-Windsor is what is used.

Prior to 1960, the family who descended from Queen Victoria was known as the house of Windsor, as declared in 1917 by King George V.

The British Royal site explains the technicalities of royal surnames in great detail. However, we are sure that when hearing about ‘Princess Kate’ there is nobody on Planet Earth who will respond, “Princess Kate WHO?

Although Kate Middleton’s sheer black dress may not be as well known as the blue Issa dress she wore to her engagement announcement, or her breathtaking wedding dress, or even her famous brunette ‘Princess Kate hair’, this little number can lay claim to having sparked the romance of the century.

Kate donned this translucent little black dress for a student fashion show raising money for charity. It was a this even that the wheels of royal romance began to spin. William spent 200 pounds (or Granny’s as Princess Diana taught the princes to call the British bills with the face of Grandma, or Queen Elizabeth) on a front row seat at the fashion show.

When Kate Middleton made her appearance wearing a strapless bra and panties under the see-through tiny dress, William exclaimed to a friend, “Wow, she’s hot.” Indeed, right now, Princess Kate may just be be the hottest woman on the face of the globe.

This tiny sheer dress cost under $50 to create, and it was actually intended to be a skirt when it was first made! It sold at the Kerry Taylor Auctions Passion for Fashion, and it was displayed among designer dresses from the closets of Princess Diana and Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor. However, this little black dress that sparked the romance of the century was the spotlight of the auction!

This sexy black number was designed by thirty-one year old Charlotte Todd. She created the dress for her university assignment entitled ‘The Art of Seduction’ which is a name that is quite telling of the romance that was soon to bloom.

Although Todd has never had the pleasure of meeting Kate, she says that she is thrilled to have had a part in the meeting of Prince William and Kate. “Everyone says that the fashion show was when the romance started and when she bagged her prince, so a small part of me will always be part of royal history. It’s madness!”

At $125,000, the winning bidder at the auction has one of the priciest royal wedding souvenirs on her hands. Congratulations!
